I have used the Spot 350 a lot and it is time to look for a new headlamp. These two headlamps have a lot of features but I find the usage to be clunky. I have accidentally touched the side of the lamp and have it flash to extra bright too many times. When I the brightest setting by accident it takes me a few moments to find the place to touch the side of the headlamp and turn it back to normal.
Holding down the button to cycle through the brightness settings also seems clunky and a cumbersome activity to find the brightness setting I want.
Battery life can drain quickly when the headlamp shows two blue dots of charge. I’ve had 2 dots on a trip then after a few weeks at home the batteries were dead.
I like the lock sequence so you don’t accidentally squish the headlamp on while you are backpacking.
Somehow the plastic face lens has several cracks and is no longer waterproof and I don’t have the receipt for the 3 year warranty. I know I didn’t drop the headlamp so this is a warning the plastic faceplate is fragile.
The red LED is fine, though I wish it was brighter, perhaps the Spot 400 has a brighter red LED.
Overall I wish I had bought a different headlamp and I’m looking for a replacement.
